Peace Island Leadership School 2014 : Global Governance for UNESCO Int’l Protected Areas in Jeju Island

Greetings. 

World Environment and Island Institute WEII is a part of World Environment University (WEU) concept, envisaged by Maurice Strong , one of the architects of the global sustainable development. 

Mr. Strong asked Prof. Chang Hoon Ko, president of World Association for Island Studies WAIS to take a responsibility of the island sector with this framework. He in turn enlisted the support of likeminded colleagues to create an academic structure that could stand alone and be smoothly integrated into the WEU at an appropriate time. 

WEII was established in Jeju in June of 2010 as a-not-for-profit global foundation that would serve as the organization base for this work. To create a brighter more sustainable future, the program of 2014 PILS has been developed as a strategic response. This will be the focus on Global Governance : Global Governance for UNESCO Int’l Protected Areas in Jeju supported by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, JNU www.jejunu.ac.kr and WAIS, www.peaceisland.asiaand the Maurice 

Strong University Network. This program is connected with Green Growth and Travelism Summer School of Hasselt University ( August 25- August 29, 2014) in Belgium www.greenearth.travel .
